I have a ide HD from a previous (dead) computer that i would like to use in my new tower. is there a cable that goes from the ide drive to the sata connection and/or can I connect it to the avaliable 40 pin connectors hanging off of the dvd drive?
thanks for your help!

Yeah, connect it to the 40 pin IDE channel if it's an IDE drive.

Thanks for getting back to me Dave,
I plugged the drive into the ide cable and put the jumper to slave. I also tried to not use a jumper at all, either way the computer would say that the configuration were different and it would not boot up. is there a step i am missing?
thanks for all your help.

Set one to master and one to slave.

Done correctly it will work.

The BIOS may alert you that the configuration has changed, just agree and continue.

hmmm. that did get me a step closer. I did go into bios and set the SATA drive to be the first to be booted up and the ide drive to be second and set it to slave but now the computer won't go past a black screen when turned on. (also tried the slave jumper in other configurations)

I think I am going to give it a bath.

I have accesed this slave ide drive with an old computer running windows NT but can't get the computer to recognize my seagate ext usb hard drive so I can move my files. Looked for a driver for this but things were not working.

The good news is I am sure I can fit both computers and myself in the tub.
