I Want My System to Except My Hardrive As a SATA-3 As Designed W/windows XP

    Hello,

Several months ago I purchased new system components from Computer Solutions. My intention was to build the system myself, however it arrived fully functional: My PC is running a Gigabyte MB (MA78GM-S2H), Western Digital hard drive using windows XP proffessional OS. The problem is that the hard drive is running in IDE mode. The bios shows conformation upon bootup, and asks if I would like to run in ACHI? mode. I have tried to do this in order to utilize the wanted SATA capability, but my system will not run after switching over to ACHI mode. Can this be remidied without reloading the OS??

IDE and SATA are physically different.

You have either one or the other.

I Want My System to Except My Hardrive As a SATA-3 As Designed W/windows XP

    Hello,
Yes my hard drive is plugged into a sata plug. The problem is upon booting it is read in the bios as being configured for IDE not SATA. The Gigabyte mother board manual describes this problem: "SATA is found running at IDE MODE!" Then I'm asked if I want to change it to AHCI mode and enable hot plug functionalit for the SATA connectors.

Sorry, misread your first post, basically if you want to switch over you need to reinstall.

    DON'T REINSTALL JUST YET!!

Don't bother, as XP will only work in IDE mode anyway, which is why they will have set it to run this way initially.

    EDIT*
Actually thinking about it that may just be XP x64.. Are you running x86 or x64?
Although I don't see it should make a difference, or at least not that way around.

Done some revision, it seems it is XP full stop does not support any other configuration other than legacy IDE mode.
