my friend gave me his notebook hard drive from his notebook and i was wondering is there any way/program wo wipe it fully so that NO data can be retieved as it has his details on it
i dont really want to do just a standard format ?

You're going to be wanting a data dump then Cewy.

There's many a freeware out there that can do this.

Did you know there's a government standard for this type of thing should you go to a company for the service? It's considered medium-security level, and says the dump must take the form of 3 iterations to completely overwrite a hard drive 6 times. Each iteration makes two write-passes over the entire drive; the first pass scribes 1's over the drive surface and the second scribes 0's onto the surface. Bit of useless info for you there.

Just Google "data dump" or "freeware hdd data dump"

Do you intend to use this disk? If not, the safest way to secure the data is to completely obliterate the drive.

this might work. Never used it myself.
