Freezer trick?

Is that like the one where you spray deodorant on your numberplate to evade speed cameras.

lol, no it's when you put the drive in a couple plastic bags and throw it in the freezer for a while, and then try to run it, you can usually get the last bit of life out of it to get a couple files, for internal drives at least

Default WD Passport 120gb Help

it's worked for a few people, usually an internal drive that's clicking and they do it immediately. It shrinks the parts so that they will work together for a few more minutes.. sometimes.
But hey, it's something to try if it's your last resort :)

Smile WD Passport 120gb Help

Quick update for you all - Western Digital agreed a warrenty exchange (unit is 5 mths old) but wanted credit card details for a $170 deposit on me returning faulty item, plus I was told to use DHL or a similar courier. Phoned arround & best price for a return to their service dept. in Germany was £30...(a new unit is now £55) On the off chance, I e-mailed Amazon (who I bought it from) last Friday, a quick reply and phone conversation resulted in an offer to send out a new unit which arrived this morning!! I've to send back the faulty unit but postage will be a lot less... Oh, and I'll keep a back up this time.... Thanks Amazon...:)

They are good aren't they Andy. I use them primarily for dvd's and suchlike but I did buy my Passport from them also. Have to remember what you've put should I get any problems.

Thanks for letting us know.:)

Default WD Passport 120gb Help

Wierd that happend to me too, I went to boot it up and the usual icon is not there, it instead turned into a "local drive I:" icon. When i click on it, it says the drive is not formatted but give me an option to do so (which will delete all the data). I have the 80 gb hard drive. Its not working on my laptop or my desktop. I dont want to lose all my songs:(( any suggestions on how to retrieve data?
