Default What caused this??

Recently my computer started freezing at random moments, and it never did that before.

So i turned off the power and opened my case and check that everything was plugged in properly.

Then when i tried to turn it back on nothing happened..i thought i fried my motherboard or something. But i tried again and everything started, then i saw smoke coming out of my hdd and i quickly shut it off. WTF

i took the hdd out of the rails and had a look the bottom of it..it was plugged in so i tried turning the computer on again. Then i noticed a little red flame and i was like SHIT...

now my hdd is ****ed and i lost all my data :(

could be heat, that has over time caused this to become weaker. Though I'm pretty sure thats not it.

It could well be an electricity surge (Dont discount these things folks, I recommend to anyone with a pc to get a surge protector. Even if you don't believe it £15 for one when you've spent hundreds, potentially thousands, of dollars/pounds on your pc doesn't seem like much money now does it?).

It could also be a bad drive direct from the manufacturer.

It could also be that it's been knocked or played with. Anyone else go inside your pc?

No, I don't think it could have. Not in this instance.

But to be fair there isn't really enough to go on for a definitive answer. It could be any factor of things.
