Default Whoops, SATA Dvd Drive with ATA Cable...

So I got what I thought was a great deal on a dvd drive. But I wasn't paying attention the the important detail that it was a SATA drive; and my computer has an ATA type flat cable ( the 40 pin one, I think it's called an ATA cable?) anyway there seem to be cable- sockety type conversion devices, are they a good idea?I can usually puzzle my way through most hardware insatllations, trial and error, but I am wondering if this is worth it. My demands won't be very great - no big media type expectations.
On ther other hand is anyone interested in a brand new RW DVD? heh heh.

Are you sure your motherboard hasn't got a SATA Socket ? ... if unsure, report back with Motherboard Make & Model No.

Adaptors can be used, but you will be better with a direct connection, if you have one.

ACPI x86-based PC, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3200+ 2.0 GHz I can't see any name on the motherboard. I don't see any slots on the motherboard that have a similar number of pins as the SATA drive. The SATA drive (Samsung) didn't come with any cables. The slot on the back of the drive has one socket divided into two parts - one with 15 pins and one with 7 pins. Data and power I guess.

So you've got a S939 motherboard, that's for sure.
I believe some S939 mobos had Sata support.

Might want to download CPU-z and see what mobo name it gives;
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

We'll know more when we get a brand and model number.

Duh. It's a TFORCE 6100-939. Which says according to the manufacturer has two SATA I/O. But I don't see them, maybe (probably) I don't know what I'm looking for. Where would they be and what would they look like? Can a motherboard run IDE and SATA at the same time?

Also need a SATA power cable, though an adapter for that is pretty easy to find.
