...insert a disc? This problem has been happening ever since I got the machine. Buying a new CD/DVD drive made no difference. Each time I put in a CD the computer freezes. I have no use of mouse, keyboard, etc.. and have to manually turn the computer off. I use windows xp. Can anyone suggest something???

Have you tried a new cable? Are you sure your computer "sees" the drive? That's where i would start. Good luck

if it works when you take the cd out after you put it in then it's probably a problem with the cd drive not reading the cd right. if not then it could be alot of things. try updating your drivers first.

1.) Use a separate IDE cables for your CdRom and your Harddisk.2.) Use a Cd lens cleaner.3.) Change the region settings of your DVD Rom drive. (How to do that?!) Go to the device manager, select DVD/Cdrom drives, double click to show the properties. then select dvd region. . . You can use help and support center provided by the windowsXP.goodluck!
