Heyy, just a quick query for someone who understands electronics better than I do!

I've currently got a surround sound setup, with 3ohm speakers. Looking at upgrading my Amp, as my current one is on its last legs, but the ones im interested in are all 8-16ohm outputs. Can I simply add a 5ohm (or similar) resistor to me speaker cable? I don't want to run at 3ohm, in fear of damaging the amp!

Looking to upgrade the speakers later on, hence the choice in Amp, but alas, cant afford to do both at once!!

Cheers,
MCTW

No you cant solve it with resistors .... if you use the 3ohm speakers with an 8ohm Amp/Receiver, there's a good chance you will overheat & damage the Amp.

I thought as much, but thought I'd better check first!

Could always put the 2 speakers in series I guess to make 6ohm, thats nearer!

Or just not being such a cheapsake and buy a whole new kit!
