Can anyone tell me why I can't hear anything

from my computer speakers unless the wave slider is to the side? That's the Balance control slider in the Wave box of my Volume Control. If it's not all the way to the right or left I can't hear anything. I have Windows XP.

Open your Volume Control and make sure "Mute" box is not checked on the PC speaker panel.
