Hi guys,

Having some sound trouble. Using the built-in soundcard on my MSI P6N SLI V2. It has the 8 channel realtek HD audio. When I plug my headphones into the headphone socket on the front of my PC, i get some crackling which gets more noticeable at highr volumes. The speakers are fine.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek. Still the problem is here.

Could it be a connection problem inside the headphone jack itself? Or a loose connection from the front socket to that which it corresponds with on the motherboard?

Cheers

Tom

Could be both. I would definitely check/reseat header connections.

If the sound works fine through your speakers then it is almost undoubtedly your headphone socket that is at fault. If you can solder, it can be replaced very cheaply. :)

How would I go about replacing this socket?

A £10 sound card would be a cheaper and easier option.

But I can't have a sound card on the front of my computer for easily plugging in headphones and microphones.

Does the crackling continue if you use different speakers/headphones?

A new sound card wont fix the front panel socket tho. If you are willing to take the front of your case apart in order to access the socket and can solder then i can talk you through getting and fitting a replacement. :)

A picture of the socket and its solder points would be handy if you can manage it as there a several different sockets that are of the same size. :)

That's assuming it is actually the socket, not the jack on the headphones

This socket is on top of the case. The case is the thermaltake soprano with side window.

Crackling sound does continue with different speakers.
