| Hi guys,
__________________
Having some sound trouble. Using the built-in soundcard on my MSI P6N SLI V2. It has the 8 channel realtek HD audio. When I plug my headphones into the headphone socket on the front of my PC, i get some crackling which gets more noticeable at highr volumes. The speakers are fine. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek. Still the problem is here. Could it be a connection problem inside the headphone jack itself? Or a loose connection from the front socket to that which it corresponds with on the motherboard? Cheers Tom My System: #

| Could be both. I would definitely check/reseat header connections.

| If the sound works fine through your speakers then it is almost undoubtedly your headphone socket that is at fault. If you can solder, it can be replaced very cheaply. :) Last edited by Rik : 28th Aug 2008 at 06:15 AM. |

| But I can't have a sound card on the front of my computer for easily plugging in headphones and microphones.

| A new sound card wont fix the front panel socket tho. If you are willing to take the front of your case apart in order to access the socket and can solder then i can talk you through getting and fitting a replacement. :) A picture of the socket and its solder points would be handy if you can manage it as there a several different sockets that are of the same size. :) |

| That's assuming it is actually the socket, not the jack on the headphones

| This socket is on top of the case. The case is the thermaltake soprano with side window.

| Point taken... Maybe contact Thermaltake and see if they will supply the socket/board that goes in the front of the case, then it probably just plugs into a mobo socket.

| Where do the cables going to the headphone socket go? do they plug directly into the motherboard, or are they jacks that go out of the back of the case, and into the sound card/built in sound sockets?

| All the sockets on the top have I THINK 4 pin small connectors on which plug into the mobo - might be 3 or 2. There is a seperate one for MIC, PHONES, each of the USB 2.0 sockets and the 6-pin firewire.

| Thermaltake usually use good quality sockets, it may be worth getting to the sockets solder joints and re-soldering them. :) |

| i would of said interfearence, everything produces it, first make sure ur audio wires inside your case are away from the HDD and are also away from the PSU, move them if you can as far away from these 2 main sources of interfearence if you can, and try again, and if you can hear it more when you turn them up, then i wouldnt say it was the jack or anything that has been said before. my advice. |
