It does actually seem to get louder if you turn the volume up - maybe it is interference. It isn't all the time though - intermitently. Sometimes it will be fine, others not.

BUT - They are under plastic. As in, inside the case right under where the wires come in, they are in little plastic boxes which are stuck to the top - to protect them I presume.

I'm not anywhere close to an expert and sometimes my "advise" sounds REALLY stupid. But when I start experiencing "crackling" I start looking to see if my drivers are updated. I just updated my Realtek HD to the R204 driver, but strangely enough, it's when my video driver is outdated that I get the most "crackling."

I was having problems playing a game and jumped through all kinds of hoops. Weird thing is that almost a week after I had the problems, nVidia came out with a new driver for both my vid card AND my MoBo (Both are nVidia obviously lol) I updated them both and that reminded me to check realtek so I updated it as well. My constant crashes stopped and I was able to play though to the disappointing end of a decent game lol.

In short, check your drivers if you haven't already., and by already I mean in the last couple of days.

EDIT: Nevermind. I AM a dumbass, I missed a whole page of this thread............
