| hey guys, i need some help... got some issues with my pc with regard to sound, EVERYTHNG is fine, execpt that no sound is playing!! ie: i play a song on w.m.p 10, also tried winamp and powerdvd, and the song plays but no sound is herd!! and its not only for music, there is NO SOUNDS at ALL!! no warnings, no windows startup, NOTHING!!! i formated my pc recently and i have been struggling 2 get drivers for my sound card. finally i installed "Vinyl_AudioCodec_V580c" driver which works!! i have no errors, no conflicts, ALL THE MUTES ARE OFF!! so i've checked everythng!!i have a ac97 sound card. sum1 sed that i should check the bios setup, i checked it and the ac97 chipset is enabled. i've also herd that maybe the sound card is fuct, in that case i'l have to get a new 1, is it difficult to install a new sound card?? my knowlegde is VERY limited so pls take it easy wen giving directions for help!!thanx alot gents |

| Have you tried taking sound card out and testing internal mobo sound (built in speaker 3.5 jack). If this works then its the card thats broke - if still no sound then either mobo faulty or a setting is wrong. I assume you have checked all control panel sound options for output. |

| yes, i'v checkd the control panel and checked all the mutes. i'v never opend a casing b4 so i'm not to sure wer to look, could u pls give me alittle more details of wat EXACTLY 2 look for.... any help is GREATLY appreciated!! thanx for the reply!! |

| Okay when you open your case you should see something similar to the attached pic. (Obviously un plug and shut down PC first). Your sound card will be attached to a white PCI connector which may need unscrewing - look where your speakers are plugged in to find the right card. Take this out and try plugging speakers into the build-in line out jack(usually green). Boot up and try sound again. If this works then your card is at fault if not then a setting is wrong or mobo is faulty. Be careful when opening case and touching parts not to get static - touch the metal case first to ground yourself. Good luck |

| First things first though, what colour socket are your speakers plugged into, and have you tried any other speakers to check it's not the speakers that are faulty?

| yeah the colour is correct!! the good part is that the speakers come with colour-coded jacks. i tried the other jacks to no avail. i hav alos tried connecting my headset and niether the headphones nor the mic works. |
