Default How do you figure out which type of sound card you...

...have? Is there some kind of on line diagnostic test? I upgraded windows, and there was no more sound after this, no icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, nothing like that, so i'm off to figure out how to get the sound back on the system. Currently trying to figure out which driver I would need to download to do this.

Two ways: In your Control Panel there is a "System" icon, open that and navigate to the Hardware Tab. You will see a Device Manager button, click that and it will populate a list of all the hardware on your computer and anyproblems that the hardware might be having. You can also open the Control Panel and open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" option. This will give you detailed information about drivers and hardware.

Go to START, then CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND AND AUDIO DEVICES, then click on HARDWARE tab to the far right and your sound card info should be displayed. If not, you will have to go to the website you purchased your computer from (ie DELL, GATEWAY, COMPAQ) and find out what sound card was provided with your PC. Then they should have the necessary driver you need to install in order for your sound to operate correctly. Good Luck!!!
