I have a HP Pavilian PC, use Windows XP. Had problems, and HP technical services in India recommended a System Recovery which took my computer back to condition when I bought it. The 1st time we did System Recovery the sound was fine, but for some reason we had to do System Recovery a second time to complete it. After the 2nd time through, my systen recovery fine, but when we tried to get sound, there was none. The Indian tech put the system through tests to see where the trouble is---but found everything in the computer to be in good working condition. I also checked to see my sound cable was plugged in properly to the tower port. Everything was in order---but NO SOUND! Ungently need your help.

Thanks, Dave---I'm a bit green when it comes to sound. The Indian techie took charge of my computer for a while and did tests. I seem to remember him bringing up the Device Manager screen---but could be wrong. Appreciate your help.

You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager.

In there will be sound controllers, open the tree select the device > right click > properties.

What does it say under 'Device status?'

I recon your best bet would be to go to the HP website, look your computer up, and download the latest audio driver for it.

I am tempted to say bin it and get a proper pc hehe. (I am not a pavilion fan)

It is quite possible that the wrong driver may be installed. Go back to the control panel ans uninstall the sound card and reboot the pc, when it picks up and wants to install it, point tit to the driver you downloaded and see if that helps.
