Ok, i formatted one of my partitions and installed ubuntu, configured video card etc, anyway i use SPDIF for my stereo system, but i can't figure out how to turn it on, in aslamixer theres only one slider, it says master, and aplay -l reveals this

I presume you installed all neccessary drivers?

Yes i do beleive so, the analog output works fine, but 3.5 MM to RCA for my amp, well doesnt sound that good.

Hmm I don't believe that the OS should affect this. If you boot into a different OS (I presume from your OP you have a multi boot setup) does it work perfectly?

does your card require software to be able to output in spdif? some hardward simply doesnt work with linux at all, wireless cards are a good example as i found out the hard way! odd that some of the card functions work though, i take it the drivers (though theyre not called that in linux) are compatable with linux? aka not windows drivers.

Yes it works flawlessly in windows XP.
