Hello, I would appreciate help in restoring sound to internal speaker. Use of sound card and external speakers, general sound by use of DVD drive/sound card, produces sound. External speakers not working with sound produced by the Internet or Windows XP. Software as Sonic Stage, Real Player etc.
I have checked all Windows settings without success to resolving this problem.
Problem arose on using disc 2 of Casino Royale, by a freeze of computer.

Hello David, many thanks for your prompt reply to my cry for help.
My computer is a Sony Desktop model PCV-RX403N.
At startup/close down of computer no sound heard at either computer speaker or Cambridge Soundworks speakers. Sound card fitted Audigy 2.
Bios setting shows that both video and audio AC-97 are disabled.
Checking Device Manager - no yellow coloured exclamation marks are showing. All Internet web sites - sound are muted.
Reinstalling Audigy 2 drivers shows "no better driver available".

I really don't understand this problem Bobby.

You say you are not getting sound but then go on to say DVDs work.

You the say the Internet produces no sound but also say that it has been muted.

In short if the speakers reproduce any sound of any description be it from a DVD or Internet they are installed correctly, hardware/driver wise.

The lack of sound can only then be down to the program being used to reproduce the sound is not setup correctly or is muted.

Hello Dave, this error certainly baffles me and it must be down to software problem as the sound card works proved by DVD films functioning through Hollywood Magic software. Internet sound reproduced fails and as Windows start etc pre-recorded sounds.
Original error was caused by a DVD film freezing completely computer, that required a mains shut down. However a "restore to a working log up" fixed the error problem. Only after being very stupid trying same DVD, error returned. Unfortunately, "restore to a working log up" is no longer shown on screen. A "restore" appears not to work and apparently after several tries, restore settings become erased, leaving only the current date restore.
Reading similar sound losses are different to loss experienced by me.

Ok so its probably your windows sounds have been disabled.

Goto - Control Panel > Sounds & Speakers > and check you have a sound scheme enabled and setup.

Hello Dave,SB Audigy 2 (9800) Volume Device Volume - High. All mutes are unticked. Advanced - All mutes are unticked. Speaker settings - Speaker volume - LH set high. RH set high. Device Manager - Sound,Video + Games controller - No yellow exclamations shown. Bios AC-97 Video + Audio set "Disabled".
Windows at start up - no sounds.
Toshiba DVD Rom. SB Audigy 2. Creative Game Port. Sigma Design Hollywood. Audio Codec. Legacy Audio Drivers. Media Control Device. Device Manager - all mention as "This Device Working".

Device Manager - Sound, Video + Games - no errors reported.
Any other suggestions where to look in Windows for suspect errors?

I said check you have a sound scheme setup.

To change Windows sound schemes:

• Click the <Start> button.
• Click <Control Panel>.
• If you are in the Category View, select Switch to Classic View.
• Click <Sound and Audio Devices>.
• Select the <Sounds> tab.
• Either change to a new sound scheme, or edit your existing sound scheme.
• Click <OK>.
