Default MP3 Problems.

I recentley bought my better half an MP3 Player and have come up against a problem. I have 'aquired' a disc with several MP3 albums on and have tried several times to put these albums on to the player. The problem that I have encountered is that after a short while I get the following error message.

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

I have tried uploading the tracks onto my pc first but get the same message everytime. If anyone can explaing to me what this message means or what I could be doing wrong, I would be extremely greatfull.

Sounds like the PC cant access the MP3 Player.

Assuming you are running XP , when you plug the unit into your USB port, does the system respond with the normal device found/installing message ?

Also .... silly question, but ... you are switching the MP3 Player on, when connecting ?

Yes the pc responds as normal and when I connect the player it automatically turns on. I have found out elsewhere that I could have a problem with my disc drive.

Ive just tried 'ripping' a cd and putting that on the player and it worked ! Im a bit of a technophobe when it comes to things like this but it seems to me that I have a couple of problems. 1. With the cd that has the mp3 tracks on. 2. I think I could have a problem with my cd/rw drive. Thanks for your help Phil.

From what you say, it sounds now as though it could just be the CD you have aquired.

Some CD Drives are fussy and may not read certain brands of disks, especially cheapos, so it may not be a problem with your drive, unless you are experiencing other problems with it.

Try creating a Folder on your Desktop (call it what you will), open My Computer and copy/paste the MP3 Folders from the CD to the desktop folder and see what happens.
If you get an error, post back with the exact error message, if not .... you have the music on your PC and should be able to transfer it to your MP3 Player from there.

If the error occurred trying to copy the files to the Desktop, then it certainly sounds like a bad or incompatible CD.
Try copying the disk on a friend's PC, if his drive is more forgiving and he can copy it ok, then the new copy will probably work on yours, assuming you use a decent quality disk.
