Default MP3 Problems

Hi, Hope you can help.
My computer has stopped recognising my MP3 player - when you plug into the USB there is a double beep tone and the then when you go to the media studio the device is not detected. I have checked the ports and they are working (used digital camera to check).
I was running Samsung MP3, Creative MP3 and digital camera for months on this with no probs. I have tried uninstalling, re-installing and even a restore to no avail.....Please please someone out there please help.
