I installed all the Vista drivers which came on a disk which came with the computer for vista, and still no sound. Both front and rear panels do not have any soud output and on device manager it says all the drivers are installed. MY chipset is intel ICH17, and this problem has really been bugging me. Please help

they might be broken.. Not sure but if there is a soundcard you can test in your system it would tell you if your onboard sound is broken or whether there is a driver problem.

Its propably the drivers,
You can check this by going into control panel, selecting sounds and then click test if the sound card is broken it will not give you anything but on the other hand you have to make sure for 100% that you have the right audio driver instaled. Its best to go to the website where you had the motherboard and get the latest drivers from there.

Have you checked in your BIOS to see if it is set up for a sound card instead of the onboard sound? Start with the first things first lol. And your BIOS tells your Windows, regardless of the version, what to use.
