 No sound card installed

My friend was cleaning up my hard drive by deleting some unwanted programs, and my sound hasn't worked since then. I am showing no device in the control panel. I am using windows XP....

No sound card installed
The soundcard software and drivers have been deleted. Download then from the manufactures website.
