I've psoted about this something I'm sure but I can't find it. I've gone into the device manager it is listed as Multimedia Audio Controller to try and reinstall the drivers but this was unsuccessful. I downloaded what I thought was the right driver, but when I tried to install the PC just rebooted itself.

I did as Davw suggested the Everest program this is what I found:

Under there are the two options: Windows Audio and PCI/Pnp Audio which says :

Intel 82801DB ICH 4 AC'97 Audio controller [B-0]

I've tried going to the Intel website and looking via the Processor and Chipsets, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for.

CPU Type: Intel Celeron D 345, 3066 MHz (23 x 133)

Motherboard Name: Intel Plumb Island D845EPI / Sea Breeze D845GVSR / Villanova D845GLVA

Motherboard Chipset: Intel Brookdale-G i845GEV

Help would be great as I'd like to get this sorted tonight.

what does the tray icon look like on the bottom right

and also is there a yellow exclamation mark on your sound card in the device manager?

Yeah next to Multimedia Audio Controller there is a yellow exclamation mark. Not sure about the tray icon its my brothers PC.

Right okay I triwed the first one and when I tried running setup it said Device Object (i think) not found restart and run setup again (which i havent done yet).

The second link I downloaded but all it is is two files one explaining setup and the other a system file I can't open??

The download file is a rar file, which should extract to 2 files :

ac97ich4.sys
oem34.inf

If you go to Device Manager locate the Audio Card right click on it and select Update Driver, you should then be able to point it at the oem34.inf file.

Sorry to bring this up again, but my brother was unable to do that. Any further suggestions?

Does your brother have the original motherboard disk, if so, the correct driver should be on there.

Was this from when he tried the motherboard disk or from the file he downloaded ?

Oh sorry the file he downloaded. I doubt if he has the motherboard disk....
