a couple of weeks ago i noticed that the sound wasn't right while trying to watch a video on youtube. i was unable to hear the was being said. the best way to describe it would be with very high base almost like it's trying to use surround sound but there is no other speaker for the higher treble sounds (like voices and lead guitars in songs). if i turn up the volume i can hear some 'blips' in the sound as if the sounds are coming from some rubbish artists (out of key and out of time).
I've checked the wires round the back of my computer they seem to be fine. I'm using my hi-fi through the 'front speakers' and my guitar amp through the 'cd input' is put into the computer's 'center/sub woofer' output. using realtek HD audio manager, which i've now nulled all the EQ's etc and gone through the normal volume settings.
the speakers themselves are fine as CD/radio play fine through the hi-fi and the amp plays fine with other inputs.
only new thing i can thing that may relate to the sound problem is that i got a belated xmas present the weekend before the problems. a midi keyboard to use with reason music editing software, but i can't see how that could effect anything but the program itself and the keyboard settings.
its getting to me as pretty much any form of media is useless on my computer. ARRRH!

any help suggestion at all will be appreciated massively!

sorry if youve stated youve already tried this but have you tried a normal, PC set of speakers or earphones?

with all this gear around another thought maybe that its interference so yeh, try some normal speakers so we can rule out a few things (or earphones)

when u mentioned drivers it gave me an idea. i new that i had the latest drivers, but thought that as my sound went weird when i got the midi board, maybe some of the software i installed messed the current drivers up, or interfered with current drivers or workings of the software. so i (forgotten the correct term) rewound the drivers and reinstalled the previous ones from disk. it worked :) yay
thanks for your help
