Hello folks,
months ago i connected my new bought pc to my 20-year-old NAD hifi unit, with a jack-double cinch, worked pretty good for a few weeks but one day in the middle of a DVD my speakers gave a very loud bassy droning sound .I was in the kitchen at the time, would have gotten a heart attack; the sound was even audible after i turned down the hifi's volume... fortunately i still had pc speakers, that im still using, anyway i live in a flat, so im fine with them... But still i wonder what the heck was that; someone said it had to do with earth ![]() Any takers? |

Unless something broke it sounds like an earth loop.

I take it the NAD still works on its own - with a CD player plugged in, for example - and the sound output on the PC still works because you can use it with PC speakers. The hum suggests that your room's earthing system isn't optimal and that's not easy to deal with. If you put a loop isolator between the PC and the NAD you might stop the noise. It's a cheap thing to try and it's what it's designed for. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=14&doy=26m9 is an example, you could try to source it locally. My System: Tim

I've now heard that with regards to earth loops it's either-or, meaning it couldn't have run smoothly for months before that noise started.
So it's more likely that the cable was damaged. I'm buying a new cable and try again. |

Check connections as well.
