Default Reformatted and Got No More Sound..

hey everyone, I recently reformatted (and installed winXP home edition). I installed the network card drivers and it pretty much updated all the drivers on my PC except for the sound card because it doesn't seem to be working..

My motherboard is:

Intel La Crosse D865GLC

and my sound card is:

Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]

I've tried downloading realtek AC'97 drivers and upon installing, windows prompts me saying that the drivers have not passed windows logo testing, asking if I wish to continue installation or abort. When I choose to continue, the computer shuts off.

Anyone know what the problem could be? I know the sound on this computer can work because it was fully functional before the reformat.

Thanks

Have a look on your motherboard disk ... the correct driver should be on there.

I believe this is the driver you need.

Other drivers can be found here

Hey, I just tried installing the driver you linked to me and I went through the whole installation without getting the usual "drivers have not passed windows logo testing" error, but at the very end, it says "driver not found! reboot your system and run this setup again". I did so and I got the same error.. I really have no clue of why this is happening :s...

Thanks!

You need to uninstall any previously installed driver first .... have a read here

then reboot the system and install again.

Hey, I tried removing the sound max driver that was supposed to be uninstalled but it just isn't there.. I think the problem is more where there are the yellow question marks on this image:

got any clues on what to do from there ?? thanks

I would uninstall both devices, restart, and without touching the add new hardware wizard start driver installation.

Ok well I got the PCI modem installed correctly but I think that was something like a Fax driver or whatever.. the problem is the Multimedia Audio Controller. I tried uninstalling, rebooting and letting the hardware finder do the work but it prompts me to insert a floppy.. which I don't have :s.. I also tried uninstalling and installing the soundMAX drivers, they still don't work. I tried a few different Realtek AC97 drivers (I think these are the ones I need) but eveytime the installation nears completion, my compter suddently reboots and I get the "windows recovered from a serious system error" prompt. Is there a way I could pinpoint the exact driver I need to install?

thanks

The drivers I linked to above are the correct drivers, providing you have quoted the correct motherboard. You need the Audio: ADI* 1985 Driver as this is specific to your motherboard .... the Realtek drivers are just generic.

Go back here and try again .... the only other thing I can suggest is maybe install the Chipset driver first, if you haven't already.

Other than that, maybe you have other issues with your Windows installation
