just a general question how do you set up your EQ do you do alter it via software ie itunes winamp or by the hardware ie the subwoofer or amp?

if so do you max out the 2 ie bass and treble

EQ's are for equalizing the levels. So if a tunes is light on bass you up the bass etc.

If you max out both it will sound the same as leaving both normal. It would defeat the point.

?
yeah but if you up the bass you get more bass so its not the same as listening to it on normal EQ level, i always max out the EQ settings more umpth for volume

That's what you said, doing so is the same as upping the volume. So rather pointless. I just turn the volume up. If however, one or the other is low, adjust as necessary.

theres no reason why you cant turn the EQ up on both. It can get confusing when you try to alter it to suit the track playing, or for a game etc. If your using both, it would be a idea to only put both up halfway, otherwise the audio will start to distort.

I usually use the EQ on the amp/subwoofer to get it sounding roughly right for all uses, as the EQ is usually less accurate. I then use the EQ on itunes/etc to fine tune it.

Bear in mind though, that the EQ on the amp/subwoofer will effect all sounds aka games, itunes, windows sounds, youtube. Whereas the EQ on itunes/etc will only effect that program.

Mctw is exactly right, but just to check you are talking about a hardware EQ yeah?

A nice box on your desk, not a crummy software one that doesn't even sound that great?

If it's hard, just stick it between the PC and amp, any even half-decent one will have an I/O monitoring switch, so you can stop altering the levels at the press of a button.

If it's an application, stop using it and buy a proper EQ. I would reccommend Behringers Ultragraph Pro range.

I think EQ should be set on 0. Too much bass or treble adds a lot of noise into sound.
To get the best sound use jetAudio plus and AC3 Filter, forget about iTunes ;)

If you set an EQ to 0, where the hell is the point in buying it in the first place?!?

EQ are normally used for small alterations as being heavy on them can stress speakers.
it would be best to turn up the volume by the amp for the speaker then small alterations on the EQ
all this really depends on the spec of your audio system. witch i take is more of a top range product.
it would have to be to tun up the bass EQ full and still have good sound quality
well thats how i was learnt how to use EQ when i used a laptop for the first time at a club

i use winamp pro for my music listening

That's the point of an EQ, you move a slider, or turn up a knob on the frequency/frequency range that you want to get a higher gain on (volume, basically) so saying theres no point in an EQ because it "adds more noise" is stupid, that is the point.

That's even more ludicrous!

I spent about £150 on an equalizer, why the hell would I then go and leave every frequency at +-0 ?!

Sorry Pete, I know where you're coming from, and I agree completely, that the use is for making smaller alterations, or cancelling out a particular frequency (ie. instrument) - but that post was just ridiculous.
