My mums computer has started a strange fault. When ever you play music and do a task like open IE the sound jumps like a scrached CD untill the program loads. But if you leave the pc alone it plays fine. This is with both CDs and music off the HDD.
It does it in winamp and wmp. I have updated the drivers and even replaced the sound card but it still jumps like mad. Any ideas will be greatful. Its a Acer - somethng?(no model anywhere) With a Biostar M7VIG Ver 1.0 motherboard Athlon 2000+ cpu 512mb DDR PC2700 Windows XP Home |

Well first off .... 512mb Ram is bareley adequate to run XP, so an upgrade may help.

You could check what is running in the background and at Start Up, as with such little Ram, there's not enough to go round. My System: Home Build

Yea, I would say it's a lack of system resources, try getting another 512MB (or even 2*1GB if you can fine some DDR that isn't too expensive) as this would help the system alot, even if it's not the cause of the problem.

Did you check what is running in Task Manager and at Start Up
Also try a System Restore |
