Default Strange MP3 player issues

I got myself an mp3 player off ebay that was 2GB but everytime it got to about 580MB it wouldn't accept anymore files.

So I sent it back as faulty and got one from somewhere else but this is doing the same thing but at about 460MB.

Could this be down to something on my computer because it's driving me crazy!!

I think it is something to do with XP, I have a 2gb memory stick and it does the same thing. I did spend a great deal of time searching for a way to fix this but never did

Where are you seeing the 460mb capacity you quote? Is this in 'my computer' under 'properties' for the drive?

I'd be going into the player/drive itself and seeing how much room the firmware and any manufacturer add-on's took.

I assume you've installed the drivers (before connecting the unit to the pc) for the player?

Also, as it's ebay, download everest and see what it has to say about the capacity.

It might be an idea just to format the unit (then checking it's capacity again when you know it's empty), then start again from scratch as if you'd just purchased it.

On the other note, my Samsung mp3 and iPod's capacity show correctly, so it could well be a misrepresented capacity by the seller. Also, even if it's not that, a lot of Ebay seller's stock of this type come from HongKong, the copy capital of the world. Who's to say there's 2gb flash ram in there?
