Default Acer laptop - system restore

I just ran a full system restore (from disks) on an Acer laptop. It boots up and goes to the "Welcome to Windows Setup Screen" and then just hangs up. I can't move the cursor and the enter key didn't work either. The music is playing and everything seems normal. I tried running it several times and I get the same results evey time.

I'm guessing that either the hard drive has bad sector(s) or the restore disks are corrupt, any thoughts?

Yeah the disks are out. I tried the tab key and it didn't work. Actually all you should have to do is hit enter to move to the next screen. I turned it off for awhile and tried it again, but no change.

That will be my last resort.

I do have an OEM version of XP Pro.

I was hoping to keep this laptop "original" if possible.
