Hi again
I just found something interesting on this laptop from a friend of mine.

Fristly is not booting any time I like, sometimes boots same times not.

But what is funny is that there is 2GB Ram (2x 1gb) and the system says that theres only 765MB of Ram which is not even one working proprely. So what I did was I tried one each time but still only 765 MB, and both worked seperatly.

But main problem is still not booting

Any ideas very wellcome.

Can you do any of the following:?
1) Try RAM modules in a different motherboard, ruling out faulty RAM
2) Try different RAM modules, also ruling out faulty RAM
3) Try it in a different slot (I don't know how many you have in there?), ruling out a slot problem

Sorry in the delay getting back to you, didn't see the thread for some reason

Anywho, it must be a motherboard problem, everything else is ruled out.

I guess you could find a replacement somewhere.. But it might not be worth it, in favour of a new one altogether.

Your call really.

What OS is on the Laptop ? and what Service Packs (if any) are installed ?
also what is the Model Number of the Acer Travelmate?
Is this the original Ram or has it been upgraded ? ... if so what was installed originally ?
Have you got an original Windows Installation Disk for it ?

I think you may have 2 seperate issues here .... first off :

Can you boot into Safe Mode ?

Hi Philthomas
It is the travelmate 5520.
Original RAM yes.
Originaly was vista but as been changed to xp and worked for about 8 months and I think its not a genuine. but it passed all microsoft tests when I've done some updates from Microsoft.

The problem is that most of the time the mainboard does not even starts.
when I press the botton nothing comes up on the screen and it seems that the laptop tries to boot 2 times, at least that's what it looks like ( the lights come one 2 times for about 4 seconds each) and tha's it nothing else happends, just switchs everything off.

I also read this morning on a forum few problems with the same laptop model. there was one exacly the same and the comment that was there was that it could be the CPU fan. Do you think is that possible ?

I'll be waiting for your help and knoledge
