Hi all,
I have the HP (Hinge Problems) Compaq V5000 - a mess, as hinges slowly deteriorated and the duct tape/wires giving out! (lol). Question: have access to purchase another V5000 parts unit...everything intact except HD, in great physical condition. Would it be feasible to transplant my guts into this one...any probs in disassembly...R&R procedure? I am technically able and don't really see any complications with this [on paper!]. Any advice on this, as I have to quickly respond to seller of used laptop. Thanks in advance! P.S. I must do this asap - laptop is critical to my work - a 'must have' on service calls. |

Transplanting the screen should be easy. You can usually buy workshop manuals for a few pounds online. The screen generally requires loosening a few screws and removing a strip containing the buttons twixt screen and keyboard, usually a push fit.

Thanks for reply BUT...not changing screen, repacing all my "guts" into another case. Just picked up on that I crossed the pond (re:lbs).,,,'evening chaps!
I will be performing the operation in short order as I have purchased same used/parts laptop - in primo shape...also, have new hinges that I had and will probably change them at the same time. This is a common issue with these Compaqs [hinges] and I will post back to let you know how it goes. Later...er uh, --- I mean cheers mates! Billy from Beantown (Boston Ma) |
