I'm buying a laptop that is just going to be used to surf the net, and maybe listen to music. Don't need anything fancy, just something that will work, and work for years to come. Most of the computers I have are custom builds and the brand name ones I've bought always end up broken within a few years.

So, what's the most durable brand and more particularly what's the most durable laptop I can get for under $1,000?

Also, which brand has the best tech support?

Thanks.

No laptops work indefinitely. No brands have good support. Most are fragile. To get a durable one you would need to spend considerably more on a toughbook.

Laptops typically have a short shelf life, they overheat and get knocked about etc. Repairs normally outweigh their second hand value after a few years due to higher parts and labour costs compared to desktops/towers.

Best advice is not to go to mad on spec/price and buy from an etailer like dabs or ebuyer to get a good deal, when the hardware starts going fruity out of warranty, replace it.
