DX9. Ideal one on a budget would be a 7600.

DX10. None at the minute (on a budget).

Personally, I prefer it over the core duo's. I'd put it between the core duo's and core 2 duo's.

Ive found a few good looking ones with ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 graphics, what are they like compared to the Nvidia 7600 and 7400?

The 1250 is an integrated chipset, albeit rather a good one (for an integrated chipset).

Still, its an integrated chipset.....

(How many times did I say that?)

, so whats the difference between the 7400 and the 7600? Will they both play up to date games?

Your bog standard lappy resolution equates to 1280x800, a litte bit less than the 'standard' home user's resolution of 1280x1024

So you'll need the 7600 to be honest. Forget the 7400.

In 3dmark 05 the 7400 scores around 1900 points, in 06 around 800 points.
It has 4 pixel pipes and 3 vertex pipes, both the gpu and ram clock at 450mhz.
it also can only make use of a total of 128mb ram, which is not ideal for gaming at the stated resolution (above). Also uses turbocache (steals system ram bandwidth)

The Go version of the 7600 (not the GT-which is the same spec as the desktop version) has 8 pixel pipes and 5 vertex shaders, also uses turbocache. Can make use of a total of 256mb ram (ideal at the stated resolution). Gpu speed of 450mhz, ram speed of 350mhz. It scores around 4000 points in 3dMark 05 and around 2400 in 06.
