Hi I have an EasyNote Packard Bell Laptop 512 RAM 40 Gig Hard Drive. Just recently my CD/DVD stopped working for some strange reason. When I inputted any CD in the drive the light was still coming on but nothing getting picked up.

I then went on BIOS pressing F2. Here I noticed that the CD/DVD had been “Disaled”. What caused this to happen I don’t have a clue.

I tried to search for an option for me to “enable” this but was unable to do so.

My BOIS read the following. INSYDE SOFTWARE SCU. Then have 4 option

Start Up / Chipset / Boot / Exit. Even though I try to click on to any option there is no way to Enable this.

The other option I have is F8, But this is the option from “Boot from CD”.

Please help.

hi mate. I'm sorry for started another thread for the same. The reason why I did so was because I noticed the thread had been moved and also noticed that it was not clear at all as I copy and pasted it.

Sorry for that.Thanks Ash

Try resetting bios, using the jumper on the motherboard, or if you have no manual, to identify the jumper settings, remove the power lead to the PC and remove the cmos battery and leave it out for several hours (overnight if you can). Then replace the battery and power up. If the bios has reset successfully, it will ask you to input the Date and time.

If this doesn't resolve it, try a new cmos battery.

hi mate, thank you for your reply. I am a bit scepticle in opening the laptop as I don't feel so confident. Is there anything else I could try in bios or something. Thank You. Ash

To ENABLE your drives go back into your BIOS settings and navigate to the proper category and highlight the function you would like to ENABLE and press "enter". A selection box will pop up and you use the arrow keys to ENABLE/DISABLE it as you wish. Hit "enter again to make your selection and exit the BIOS saving your changes. If this is the only problem with the drive this should fix it.

There is usually a BIOS option to reset all settings to their defaults. I doubt if you can "click on" any options.
