Hi,
Im about to buy a new laptop and i think i have narrowed it down to 2, any help much appreciated. what ill be using it for: Downloading watching and listening to music and films other general day to day stuff - internet, storing photos etc i do not need it for gaming or anything specific like that. Budget: 400-500 pounds it will mostly be used at home but will be transported around from time to time. This: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152233#. or this: http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...fm=1&sm=0&tm=1 My thoughts: the packard bell is sleeker, nicer looking and more portable but 100 pounds more. The Hp is bigger and not as nice to look at but the specs are basically the same for 100 pounds less. Any advice welcome, Thanks

HP's are well built, so for the money, the HP is a decent bet.

Please bear in mind that the following is only my opinion - I'm not trying to claim it as fact or anything...
I would avoid HP like the plague. From my experience (with 2 desktops and a friend's laptop), the build quality is shockingly bad - extremely cheap hardware and the 2 desktops went completely haywire after only about a month. I would never use them again. Customer support was shocking (although this was probably 7 years ago now). I have a Toshiba and can't recommend them highly enough - excellent value and, from what I can tell, great components. Sorry to throw another option into the mix but they really are AMAZING value - I know plenty of people who swear by the cheap(ish), off-the-shelf Toshibas and I've not heard a bad word about them! http://www.ebuyer.com/product/147743 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151218 Both use Intel chips but there are some with AMD if your prefer. Another thing - the HPs ALWAYS come with loads of bundled software pre-installed which can be a bit of a pain in the bum if you don't want them after the trial periods end. |

I wouldn't buy an HP Desktop, but HP Laptops are a totally different breed .... very well built and components used are as good as any other Laptop manufacturer.
