I'm having a strange problem with my Compaq Presario 700 laptop. I pulled it apart to repair the keyboard and installed a new hard drive. Now once I try to boot the machine it begins to go through the boot sequence, and then just cuts off. It registers the system memory, cdrom, etc and then just shuts off. Really strange to me, any ideas? I removed the heat shield from it as well to have a look at the motherboard and I came across 4 bolts holding the heat shield on that were spring loaded and numbered on the actual heat sheild, when I reinstalled the heat sheild I'm not exactly sure if I got each bolt back from where it came from, but I do not believe that is the issue because all the bolts looked identical and were not numbered on the bolt themselves. Thanks for the help in advance!

Still sounds like it could be shorting out to me, only thing you can do is open it again and try to find what the problem could be!
