Hey, so here's the deal....I have been using this laptop I got from a friend. As far as I know it is pretty old. Like 7 years probably. It's an HP. Well it was working fine for the longest time and lately the battery won't hold a charge so it has has to be plugged in at all times. My roommate accidently unplugged it without knowing it would turn it off and now it wont boot up. The first screen I see is the one where it says Start in Safe Mode, Start from last working configuration, Start windows normally, that screen. So you can pick any of them and it still does the same thing. It will look like it is going to continue booting but after it never fully boots. It gets so far, like to the Windows Logo, and then shuts off and tries to restart and goes right to the same screen again. It just keeps doing this. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be the problem???

Sounds like 1 of the core virtual drivers might be currupted through the improper shut down, try booting in safe mode and then you might see where your computer hangs up, if it doesn't boot up in safe mode I would probably reinstall windows in order correct the corrupted file

That is a weird one, the fact it gets to the boot screen (xp logo).

Does it get further each time or does it always crash at the same bit?

It's a common file corruption due to improper shutdown, a windows repair will fix it.

You will need an XP CD.

As for the battery, they get old and don't like being plugged in 24/7, it kills the cells.

Replace it and don't leave it plugged in the mains all the time.
