I have a Toschiba "Satellite" laptoop. When I press the bootup button nothing happens and no lights are visible. The mains/battery unit is working and delivering 19.8 volts. I presume this motherboard power is faulty in which case it will be a Toshiba repair. (Laptops don't seem to for do-it-yourself people). I'm told by two shops that it will be cheaper for me to buy a new laptop. Really ??? Anyone else buy this or is it really so complicated to repair the average laptop ? Your comment will be read with interest. Thanks.

If you did want to have ago at it yourself and got hold of a cheap motherboard from the same laptop like from ebay you. 1 good trick I have is to take photos on a digital camera as your disassembling the laptop, that way when you look back at the pictures you can see how to put it back together again

How old is it? If its over 3 years, then go with the shops advice, if it isnt, then check your power supply, sounds like it might be faulty.

I know this may sound redundant, but have your tried powering up using AC only with the battery removed?
In addition, for a few bucks, you can probably find a repair manual on CD for your model Toshiba. I use them all the time...and they come in quite handy...also fairly easy to follow. |

How old is the laptop? If it's new then it might fit under the warranty repair.
