hello--got this from a friend--they said it was broken--thought it might be simple fix--however--didn' turn out that way---they have replaced the ac adaptor with THE PROPER one from dell so we can rule that part out won't run off battery either BUT BATTERY MIGHT BE BAD [not charged].
have tried to boot up without battery in unit---nothing at all!!

sometimes when i insert the plug into jack on rear--the two green lights will "flicker" for several seconds--then all off---

will check actual current draw tomorrow; however, hate to cut into the new cable--but will have too --unless anyone has other ideas to suggest to me.

might be a motherboard problem----or possible bios related

I opened it up yesterday and "looked around" --didn't see any visible problems.

I enjoy reading problems on this forum--learn quite a bit from it.

hope to hear from someone soon.
thanks

Scrub that, I noticed you mentioning the battery. When laptops die, they are hard if not impossible to fix. If its new, send it back to dell, if its not, its a write off :(
