Hello, I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix a problem with my wife's Dell inspiron 1525 laptop. I have a bit of computer repair experience, as i did this in the Army. The problem is kinda strange; as far as the keyboard, everything is fine except that the number keys will not work. When pressed, the number keys display their respective symbols, i.e. when 1 is pressed, it displays ! instead. It does this for every number key, and the Fn symbols they have on them do not work either. Another wierd problem is with the mouse/touchpad. For instance, when you go to single or double click on an icon on the desktop, it highlights every icon on the desktop, which gets to be a pain when you dont realize it and open every damn program on the desktop. Well thats about it, i should mention that she's running windows xp professional. Thanks for any input which solves this damn annoying problem.

Do the numbers still display the symbols if you hold shift down and then try typing them? as if you'd normally do if you wanted the symbols over the numbers in normal circumstances.

Yes I have tried that already. What's wierd is that I blew some compressed air around the keyboard and the number keys started working but only for like 5 minutes
