My Dell inspiron E1405 has " standard with Wi-Fi® for connecting to any 802.11 b or g network"- dell.. should i be able to connect to a wired router wirelessly? Thanks

Im also worried about anyone trying to connect to my "wired router".. I probably shouldnt be worried but Im not quite sure. Sorry about the dumb question, just had to ask...

If by wired you mean your wireless router is connected to your modem via Ethernet cable (wired) then yes, make sure your dell's wireless switch is on normally located around the sides and it should pick up wireless connections in your area including yours. Also you can set a password for your router but we'll go into that once you've established a connection with your wireless router.

Thanks for the reply Kanoaka,

No i believe my linksys router is just a "4 port wired router".. i connect 2 desktop computer to this via Ethernet cable (wired).. I would tell you the exact model if i could, but i dont have the router infront of me at the moment.

I have connected my laptop to this before i believe.. but it was really weak signal..

Are there wired routers that can distribute wireless signal to my laptop?
Also, can i turn off the wireless switch on my wired router?

Sounds like your Router is not wireless, in which case you would need to replace it with a Wireless Router, in order to connect wirelessly with your Laptop.
A wireless Router will still provide a 4 port switch to hard wire any existing PCs

Let us know the Make/Model of your existing Router and we can suggest a Wireless replacement.

Linksys are good Routers, so a Linksys Wireless model would be a good choice.

Wireless N is faster and has greater range, but unless you have Wireless N on your Laptop, you will not benefit from it.

Setting up Wireless Security is quite simple WPA is preferred over WEP, but this will be obvious once you get the unit.
