Default EMachines model M5405 - Open the case Howie!

Okay... I'm not new to computers, but haven't serviced a laptop beyond memory and hard drive replacement...

I need to know how to open the case on my eMachines model M5405. I've taken out all the screws and lifted the tabs along the back, but still it's being held by something. I need to know if these are just clips holding it there and if I can just pull the bottom off, or if I need to slide it in some special way. I don't want to break the case, as the plastic already has a few stress cracks as it is.

I'm attempting to replace the DC power port, as it's not making good contact and will only charge the battery when I have the cord rigged up to pull on the plug... not an ideal situation... so any pointers on that would be appreciated too!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Steve

On the manufactures website there may be instructions for changing the CD drive etc that will show you how to open the case.

Krlll,
I tried the manufacturer's website. I even tried their "Technical Support"... their ONLY recommendation was to send the unit in for repair.

Well, since the warranty's expired, that's not an option as I'm not going to pay a fortune to fix a simple issue. Especially when the hardest thing about the whole job is getting the stupid case open!! (sorry... been working on it for awhile.)

Cew27,

That's what I'm afraid of. I just want to make sure that it's not something freaky before I crack into it. As I said earlier, there are some stress fractures on the case and I'm concerned about the structural integrity of the case anyway... don't need me pulling and prying where I shouldn't.

Were you ever able to get your M5405 open? I have the same problem so would like some guidance on how to open the case. Thanks in advance.
