first i would like to thank you for taking the time to help me with this situation

ive never had this problem before on my laptop till after my battery pack or ac adapter would make my laptop shutdown due to non charge, so i didnt use my laptop for about 1month, then i got a new ac adapter.
now the startup takes about 20mins
could it be the battery pack?

i disabled all background programs running still delay
had my friend reinstall winxp home still delay
i have about 1.5G ram or so, is that bad?

i know i need to get a new laptop but in the meantime, i need to use this Toshiba Satellite Laptop

why all of a sudden i have a delay on startup?

thanks in advance

Sounds like your hard drive if its still slow after a fresh install of XP, run a chkdsk.

Did your friend definitely do a format and fresh install or a Repair install ? .... if the latter, I think you will need to do a clean fresh install, including a format.

Chkdsk (Chkdsk.exe) is a command-line tool that checks volumes for problems. The tool then tries to repair any that it finds. For example, Chkdsk can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors. To use Chkdsk, you must log on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
Read the link I provided you, it will explain everything you need to know about Chkdsk.
