Hello everyone, it's my first post, and thread, so how are you?

TO business then, My Laptop has recently (for about the past 2-3 weeks) been exhibiting rather strange behaviour. Namely, it lags terribly when I play games. This goes for all games, mind you, and not just demanding ones. A few examples are Empire Total War and Star Wars KotOR, both of which used to play without ANY flaws, but now lag so much as to be unplayable. (an interesting note is that when I begin a tactical battle in Empire total war, the game runs smoothly for the first about 4 minutes, no matter WHAT'S on the map, be it huge armies or just skirmishing parties, and then lags like crazy after the 4 minutes have passed)

Anyways, I have no idea what could be causing such a problem, as I routinely perform maintenance on all my hard drives.

This problem started happening at the same time I decided to move a whole s***load of files (more than 40GB!) out of my main hard drive and into one of my empty ones, as my PC has 3 of them. The files were movies, music, and downloads in general, so I thought that perhaps I could avoid overheating the poor machine, and at the same time increase efficiency. I'm sad to say quite the opposite has happened, as my machine doesn't heat up, but it doesn't play the games efficiently, or almost at all for that matter! Another thing of note is that copy and cut speeds have slowed to less than half of what they were boefore the problem showed up.

For those who don't want to read the text-wall: I have an unusual lagging problem when playing games of any type.

For those of you who have an answer, I thank you sincerely!

With the spec of the 8930, it should run like lightning.

Have you done full AntiVrus & AntiSpyware scans to check for Virus's/Malware ?

That's exactly what it DID do, up until 2-3 weeks ago! My games have never had problems, in the 10 months I've had this computer.

As for Antivirus and AntiSpyware scans, yes, I did do them, but with an expired Mcafee security program, which is the only one I have. It expired in February, so perhaps it's a newer Virus or something, that causes lag...

Hmmmm. ...... if you have gone that long with no protection, it's quite likely you have multiple virus's & malware.
Go to the Virus Spyware & Security forum here, read the first sticky and download the scan programs listed etc. and follow the instructions carefully.

evilfantasy is our resident spyware expert and I am sure he will be able to advise you ...... be warned though ... spyware removal can take a fair while to remove, if you have lots of it.
