On American keyboard layouts to get the "@" symbol it is "shift+2" (the 2 at the top of the keyboard, not on the numpad) but with UK style it's "shift+' ". basicly just look around the keyboard for the key with the "@" symbol on it, then if it's to the top left of the key (along with another letter/symbol) you will need to also press "shift", if it's in the top right, you will need to also press "alt Gr" laptops also have another keyset, if the "@" symbol is coloured (purple/blue on all laptops I've seen) you will need to also press the "Fn" key.

Maybe they copied and pasted it from somewhere online as they couldn't work it out with the keyboard, did you think of that?
