Default HP 6000 boot problem

I have a HP 6000 Laptop that has always has battery problems now it will not boot at all. I have done or observed the following:
  • tried a battery from an alternate HP 6000
  • listened to the sounds durning boot sequence
  • noticed that between the two the inoperable one goes throught the boot sequence to the point where the CPU fan kicks on momentarily then goes off (normal I believe) but the Hard Disk does begin to spin and the laptop goes into a pattern of continuous reboots.
  • The monitor never appears to come on either
Any ideas on this would be appriciated as at this time I am inclined to believe that the hard drive has gone bad.

Thanx

I don't think you should rule out the hard drive yet as the computer would still turn on even without a hard drive present. Sounds like the problem is a bit more indepth than that

Default HP 6000 boot problem

I have the same problem with the same laptop, except i have never had battery problems. I have had it for JUST over a year, of course just out of warranty. The lights will turn on and it will make some noise, but then the lights will shut off and it will try to start again, monitor stays dark. Sounds the same. It worked yesterday moning just fine, then i closed the lid and left it for a few hours and when I came back it wouldn't do anything. Sorry for the thread hijack but since we have the exact same problems I figured I would add to it. Thanks in advance, I really want to get it fixed, because without it I'm stuck using my moms Toshiba with Vista. Man I miss XP

I have a strange feeling that it could be your motherboard that has a fault Matt C, double check your warranty, some laptops come with an 18 month warranty, if your warranty is 12 months and only just out phone toshiba up and have a word with them, they might be in a good mood and repair it for free or at a reduced cost (may take some sucking up to get them to agree, lol)

Think I might have confused ya a little. I have a HP DV6000. The toshiba is my moms, nothing wrong with that one. It's my HP that is messed up. I checked into it and it only has a 1 year warranty and it ended last week. I'll mabey see what I can do about getting them to cover it, got a guy local here that fixes them so I might just take it to him. Thanks!

Took it in and they think it is the hard drive. They wanted me to bring in the disks that it came with. This laptop didn't come with disks it has a recovery drive. How do I restore it off the recovery drive? I read the book and it wasn't real informative.
