I want to buy a Laptop to act as a back up to my main PC. Primarily to help protect myself against brown outs as I shall soon be based in the Philippines!. I need something very reliable and fast. I don't play games but I do trade on Exchanges hence the requirement for speed.

I have heard good things about Lenovo and I know that HP have a back-up service second to none (in my experience).
However, Lenovo look very solidly made and beat HP hands down price- wise here in Oman. Also HP only seem to have Vista on offer here and I am used to XP Prof. My knowledge of comps is such that I am likely to side step something like Vista as I have no experience with it. The old 'don't like it as I have never had it' syndrome! I can always be converted however.

Are there any Forum members who can kindly advise me what I should do about choice please? Is there an even better choice from another make for what I do? It is a fair investment for me so I want get it right first time if I can!

I thank you in advance in anticipation of one or two replies.

Best regards.

Not sure about Lenovo, never had any experience with one of them. I've always had good things to say about Acer machines. My brother used his Africa for 2 years and even with all that dust kicking around, he still uses it now with no problems. Pretty sturdy little things in my opinion!

Lenovo bought IBM, all Lenovo machines are basically designed and made by ex IBM staff.

They are good kit, higher end.

Thank you Dave. You said almost exactly what I heard. I can pick up what seems to be the right model for me for just under $1000 or 500 sterling.
