Since i got my laptop,a HP compaq presario C300, I was until now very happy with its performance. However i recently started playing networking games or MMOs. It has had a large effect on my 1gig Ram,120GB Hard Drive, intel genuine(R) Dual Core 160Ghz,160 Ghz System(poor graphics, slower response, low rate of load). Ive been looking to improve my system ,however i have never understood or needed to understand how , by buying a graphics card or upgrading my Ram. My internet connection is as good as we get here in ireland.

Can someone please tell me if 3 gigs of ram will make any difference and what sould i be looking for when im buying a graphics card( clock times)

Also ive been on many sites looking for advice and some have posts saying that 3 gigs of Ram wont make any change to my speed, unless im low on memory, but ive always taught the more Ram u got the quicker it goes.

thanks

Forget about using 3GB of Ram.
2GB of Ram in dual channel will outperform 3GB.Assuming you Laptop supports dual channel.
Fast computers are fast because of a combination of factors.
Upgrading components in a laptop is expensive and not always possible.
You can add more memory and that will help but for new games your processor is relatively slow and onboard graphics are not going to cut it.

Yes that would be the best option but is it even possible to upgrade the graphics in the Compaq Presario C300?
I cant find any info on upgrading it.

Nope, there was a brief flirtation with making a uniform upgrade criteria for lappy's in the form of MXM. But it never took off. Too many problems with manufacturers of the chassis' wanting to go different routes with layouts and other issues.

The only brands I've known to offer it (they don't now) are Alienware, Dell and Rock. That was around a couple of year's ago that they phased the option out.

it is very hard to upgrade laptops.... usually they have an onboard graphics card (i think thats what its called) and processor is actually on the motherboard (meaning you cant take it off) ... but you could upgrade ram to improve the computers speed
this is the reason why i am getting a desktop aswell as a laptop as i want to upgrade when needed

You could potentially upgrade the cpu, but would need to confirm the cooling setup can handle the extra waste heat and that the lappy would provide enough voltage. That isn't a major job but, again, would need checking out prior to installation.

You could upgrade to a faster hdd but the would only benefit loading games by reducing the load times.

Adding extra ram will help when multitasking as i believe you have an integrated graphics solution so adding extra ram won't help with that as it steals it's ram resources from the system ram, so it will probably be maxed out anyway regardless of whether or not you add more.

Although do have a look in the bios to make sure the gpu is allocating itself the maximum amount of ram.
