Default Keyboard & Mouse

Hi, I use a laptop and it has always attached an external keyboard and mouse on it. Sometimes it confuses with the mouse and the keyboard, resulting in using only one not the both. So is there a possibility, when i attach a mouse the touch pad on the laptop to be automatically turned off until the other mouse is plugged in, also the same with the keyboard. There weren't options to set that in the properties, so can this somehow be done by using some software (free ofcourse) or somehow by setting which is primary or secondary device somewhere. I use XP home service pack 2 if that helps. Thank you

Hi, it's hp Compaq nx 6110, the laptop's mouse is synaptics touchpad V6.2 connected on ps/2 port 3
The keyboard says is standard HID keyboard device

the external mouse and keyboard are genius (without the additional software installed that came with them)

I'm fairly sure it can't be set to automatic.
