i went out and left my laptop on when i came in the screen had paused on windows .turned it off and on and the screen has never liten up since.
 when turn it on the hard drive lights up once and turns straight off bought new hard drive and still doing the same! could it be my cpus cooling fan.

How long did you leave it on for and was it on a flat surface like a table?
have you checked in bios to see if h/d is picked up? and is it the light that turns off or the laptop? and with the new hard drive did you install an o/s on it? also make and model of laptop would help m8
