sounds like a loose wire or similar, it might be quite easy to just re-solder.

I have just replaced the laptop battery on my toshiba SP4600 as the previous one wouldnt hold charge but still worked fine with the power lead and shows the orange charging light at the front. When I put the new battery in, there is no orange charging light and the battery charging icon in the task bar in the bottom right hand corner has a X across it and says no power being received. I can only assume the laptop is taking the power directly from the mains adapter and I need to send the new battery back to the supplier ??

Oh well ! It was bought off Ebay and it was cheap ! Just annoyed it came all the way from Hong Kong.

Ho hum......

Dismantled the laptop and didn't find any loose connections. On rebuilding the unit and switching on it works. The battery was fully charged when it stopped as it still is. However it is not charging and the power is falling. When I restarted I got an error message stating that the charger was not recognised. How do I get the laptop to recognize the charger and would this cause it to not charge?

That probably is what is causing it to not charge, if it's not recognising the charger as the right one, it could well be in effect turning it off, causing no power to get into the laptop, as for how to get it to recognise it, I don't know, sorry

Have either of you tried updating the BIOS?

As server says try a BIOS update. I have never had an issue with a laptop not recognising a PSU though. I shall do some more research and let you know if I find anything!

There is a small pin in the centre of the power cable plug which I believe is a data line. I need to update the BIOS but with the battery running low there may not be enough power to do so.

If you don't think there is enough power then don't do a BIOS flash - did you say you can't use the laptop plugged in either?

The laptop won't work with the adapter. I will have to get the battery charged somehow before I can attempt any BIOS fix.
